Il 1° luglio 2023, la Svezia ha ceduto la presidenza del Consiglio dell’Unione europea alla Spagna, che la manterrà per sei mesi e Philea – Philanthropy Europe Association accoglie con favore quattro priorità stabilite dalla Presidenza spagnola, (Reindustrializzare l’UE e garantirne l’open strategic autonomy; Progredire nella transizione verde e nell’adattamento ambientale; Promuovere una maggiore giustizia sociale ed economica; Rafforzare l’unità europea) che riflettono alcuni degli obiettivi del settore.

Lavorando nel campo della filantropia da oltre 50 anni, noi della BMW Foundation siamo arrivati a vedere l’impegno dei leader come una leva unica per guidare un cambiamento positivo e sostenibile. Se da un lato il paradigma di leadership prevalente ha portato l’umanità a un indubbio successo in vari campi, dall’altro ha sostenuto idee di controllo, sfruttamento, competizione e pensiero lineare e a breve termine. Non possiamo risolvere i problemi che dobbiamo affrontare oggi con le stesse mentalità e pratiche che li hanno creati. Abbiamo bisogno di un altro tipo di leadership: Leadership responsabile. “The Audacious Project”, iniziativa collaborative che catalizza risorse degli individui più ricchi al mondo, può facilmente trasformare i destini di coloro che supporta. Ma nell’ambito dei finanziamenti per il clima e l’ambiente, il focus è sugli approcci tecnologici e basati sul mercato. Questi hanno da tempo un “vantaggio” nei finanziamenti rispetto ai gruppi locali, movimenti e individui, il che non solo perpetua le storiche disuguaglianze, ma è stato ripetutamente definito un “errore strategico” che ha limitato il potere del movimento per il clima.
THE FUTURE OF THE PAST: INTERGENERATIONAL TRAUMA AND TRANSITIONAL JUSTICE
Recently I completed a research project for the Fund for Global Human Rights on the present and future of transitional justice: the things societies can do to address mass human rights abuses in their history. What I found is that a lot of money and attention have gone into the institutions of justice, truth commissions, and the International Criminal Court, and not very much into building and supporting movements of victims to sustain demands for justice and shape what justice eventually looks like.
MACKENZIE SCOTT ESTIMATED TO HAVE GIVEN AWAY $14 BILLION
US philanthropist Mackenzie Scott is estimated to have given away more than $14 billion over the last three years, approximately half her wealth.
According to a Chronicle of Philanthropy calculation, 17 nonprofits have announced donations from Scott’s Yield Giving Fund this year, with gifts ranging from $1 million to $15 million.
