C’è tempo fino al 15 luglio per presentare la propria candidatura al programma, offerto dal Center on Philanthropy and Civil Society presso The Graduate Center della The City University of New York (CUNY), rivolto ai professionisti del mondo della filantropia di comunità. I partecipanti seguiranno un ricco programma di seminari e corsi online, di scambi e confronto con i leader di diverse organizzazioni legate al mondo della filantropia di comunità e più in generale del Terzo Settore; porteranno inoltre avanti una ricerca individuale su uno specifico tema da approfondire.
Il corso si terrà online dal 27 settembre al 3 dicembre.

In questo articolo, Giorgio Righetti, Direttore Generale dell‘Acri, approfondisce gli aspetti innovativi del fondo per il contrasto della povertà educativa minorile, nato su impulso delle Fondazioni di origine bancaria, grazie a un accordo fra l’Acri e il Governo, con la collaborazione del Forum Nazionale del Terzo settore. Si concentra inoltre su come questo abbia facilitato una collaborazione più efficace e ha avuto maggiore impatto collettivo.

Un nuovo rapporto del Centre for Asian Philanthropy and Society evidenzia come in Asia ci sia una crescente tendenza tra le aziende, a livello regionale, a farsi avanti per affrontare i problemi sociali. Inoltre, vengono proposte anche sei possibili strategie che permettono ai partenariati pubblico-privati di ottenere un maggiore impatto.

APPETITE TO FURTHER ANALYZE THE RATIONALE AND EFFICIENCY OF TAX INCENTIVES FOR PHILANTHROPY
When commenting on the ERNOP Science and Society Seminar presentation of Giedre Lidelkyte Huber (Geneva Centre for Philanthropy) of key findings from the recent in-depth OECD report, I very much enjoyed the part of the conversation around the rationale for tax incentives and arguments against and in favour of tax incentives, which triggered appetite for further reflection and analysis. Philanthropy’s contribution to the public benefit and the fact that governments give up some of their revenue to acknowledge this fact got stressed. Looking at corporate income tax exemption for philanthropic organisations, the surplus that these entities generate is different in nature from those generated by for profit entities and should hence not be taxed. Does this argument really hold? Counter arguments were also presented such as the fact that tax incentives to philanthropic actors could create unfair competition (or even in conflict with State Aid rules where public benefit organisations (?) engage in economic activities), being costly to the state budgets and not even frequently used by tax payers.
IKEA FOUNDATION AND ROCKEFELLER FOUNDATION ESTABLISH $1 BILLION DISTRIBUTED RENEWABLE ENERGY INITIATIVE
The IKEA Foundation and the Rockefeller Foundation have announced they will join forces to establish a $1 billion initiative to support distributed renewable energy.
The initiative will see the creation of a global platform that will seek to stop 1 billion tons of greenhouse gas emissions and empower 1 billion people with distributed renewable energy (DRE), energy that is generated from sources such as off-grid solutions, located near the point of use, rather than centralised sources like power stations. The new global platform will oversee the organisations’ combined funds and will be run as a public charity that will channel development funds to innovative projects on the ground.
Per Heggenes, CEO, IKEA Foundation stated, “If global energy consumption doesn’t change from fossil fuels to renewable energy, we will not meet the Paris Agreement ambitions and millions of families will be left behind in poverty. We need to be honest and recognize that the current approach is not delivering the impact the world needs in the time that we have.”
