Internet è ancora oggi la più grande macchina alimentata a carbone del mondo, nonostante la narrazione prevalente secondo cui la digitalizzazione implica la sostenibilità. Le sue infrastrutture in espansione, l’archiviazione dei dati, i processi computazionali e il modello di business stanno mettendo sempre più a dura prova il pianeta in vari modi, e le stime mostrano un’escalation esponenziale in futuro. Human Rights Funders Network ha pubblicato il rapporto “Funding for Intersectional Organizing: a Call to Action for Human Rights Philanthropy” esamina lo stato delle risorse globali messe a disposizione per i diritti umani tra i vari temi e le varie popolazioni, al fine di esplorare le aree in cui il sostegno all’intersezionalità può davvero esistere. Il rapporto è la prima analisi globale e completa di quando e se le modalità di supporto a sostegno dei diritti umani vanno al di là di una singola questione o comunità. I risultati mostrano che una frazione clamorosamente piccola sostiene l’attivismo trasversale a più comunità o questioni. Solo il 18% dei finanziamenti fa riferimento a due popolazioni, e meno del 5% ne sostiene tre o più.
LA CRISI DELL’IMMAGINAZIONE SOCIALE
Nel suo nuovo libro, Another World is Possible, Geoff Mulgan Professor of Collective Intelligence, Social Innovation and Public Policy alla University College London, sostiene che stiamo soffrendo di una “crisi dell’immaginazione sociale” e propone una serie di rimedi. Possiamo infatti facilmente immaginare catastrofi ecologiche o futuri tecnologici, con robot onnipresenti e intelligenza artificiale. Ma l’immaginazione sociale è molto più difficile e molte persone faticano a descrivere un’immagine plausibile di come il benessere, la democrazia o la salute potrebbero apparire tra una o due generazioni. Uno dei motivi è l’esaurimento dell’immaginazione sociale in politica, nelle università e nei movimenti sociali.
