#PhilanthropyDoesNotStop – LE NOTIZIE DALL’EUROPA

  • One planet, one health
  • United in diversity
  • Culture and creativity catalysing change

DECOLONIZE DATA

The social sector aims to empower communities with tools and knowledge to effect change for themselves, because community-driven change is more likely to drive sustained impact than attempts to force change from the outside. This commitment should include data, which is increasingly essential for generating social impact. Today the effective implementation and continuous improvement of social programs all but requires the collection and analysis of data.

But all too often, social sector practitioners, including researchers, extract data from individuals, communities, and countries for their own purposes, and do not even make it available to them, let alone enable them to draw their own conclusions from it. With data flows the power to make informed decisions.

WHAT PHILANTHROPY CAN LEARN FROM SOCIAL MOVEMENTS IF WE REALLY LISTEN

What if funders approached grantmaking in the way social movement leaders approach their most pressing challenges? In environments defined by uncertainty, movement leaders assume that even the best-laid plans will encounter sudden storms, impasses, and rough terrain — and sometimes sticking to the plan means squandering big opportunities. So, they embark on new strategies with the confidence, fortitude, and ingenuity to navigate inevitable detours and take advantage of shortcuts that appear along the way.

EUROPE’S EMBRACE OF UKRAINIAN REFUGEES, EXPLAINED IN SIX CHARTS AND ONE MAP

Data shows why Ukrainian refugees are being treated differently than others fleeing violence. More than 3 million people have fled Ukraine in the weeks since the start of Russia’s invasion. Europe hasn’t seen an exodus of this scale and speed since World War II. Equally unprecedented is the welcoming attitude that countries neighboring Ukraine have had toward these refugees.
