Il nuovissimo Routledge Handbook of Taxation and Philanthropy, pubblicato da Henry Peter and Giedre Lideikyte Huber del Geneva Centre for Philanthropy, è la prima analisi multidisciplinare, con 30 contributi da parte di accademici di diverse discipline (filosofia, giurisprudenza, sociologia, scienze politiche), che esplora in che modo i sistemi fiscali possono incentivare e facilitare l’azione filantropica e in quali possono invece rallentarla e disincentivarla.

COSA CI DOBBIAMO ASPETTARE? LE PREVISIONI PER IL SETTORE FILANTROPICO PER IL 2022 E OLTRE
Sembra, in questo momento, che l’unica vera certezza sia l’incertezza. Ma questo non significa che non dovremmo provare a pensare al futuro. Una volta che abbandoniamo l’idea di previsioni rigide e ci concentriamo invece sull’identificazione delle tendenze chiave esistenti e sui segnali deboli ai margini della pratica attuale, è possibile estrapolare un’ampia gamma di futuri possibili. Ed è vitale che lo facciamo, dato che il 2022 vede la filantropia e la società civile in un momento di cambiamento potenzialmente enorme, che richiederà di fare delle scelte e affrontare delle sfide. UN QUADRO PER CAPIRE I COSTI DELL’AZIONE (E INAZIONE) PER IL CLIMA
Mentre gli impatti del cambiamento climatico diventano più evidenti nella nostra vita quotidiana, è fondamentale per le banche centrali, i governi, le imprese e i gruppi della società civile avere una chiara comprensione della moltitudine di rischi che affrontano. Il nuovo studio di ClimateWorks Foundation evidenzia una serie di indicatori di rischio fisico e di transizione che potrebbero portare alle emissioni di gas serra causando a loro volto il riscaldamento ad aumentare di circa 1,5°-4°C entro la fine del secolo.
GO FAR GO TOGETHER – CREDIT SUISSE ON COLLABORATION
“Collaboration has always seemed to me the best way to amplify impact”, states Credit Suisse’s Head of Corporate Citizenship and Foundations APAC, who over-sees the regional grant making and impact for the company’s philanthropy portfolio.
Whether the word is collaboration, partnership, team, working together, joining forces or cooperation, I cannot agree more with Green’s statement. I also believe that collaboration is key to lasting impact. As the well-known proverb says, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together”.
Green’s commitment to ‘going together’ is clear as she describes the work of Credit Suisse at the recent AVPN 2020 conference. A virtual conference this year due to the upside-down world of COVID -19, this pan-Asian social impact organization overcame pandemic challenges by pulling together over 7,000 participants from 103 countries to focus on the theme The Power of Networks.
FUNDING THE THIRD HORIZON
Over the last 10 months I have been co-hosting a Philea Community of Practice on Strategic Foresight, Imagination and Regenerative Futures. In September’s session the focus of the conversation was to explore what it means to fund the ‘third horizon.’ Obviously, the perfect guest speaker for this was Graham Leicester, founder of the International Futures Forum. It was a rich discussion and relevant to any philanthropists who see the value in investing their money in this ‘riskier,’ more unknown territory, hence wanting to share more about the session in this article.

The challenges local governments and nonprofits face today are almost absurdly daunting. Setting aside the perennial struggle to reconcile ever-growing needs and ever-shrinking budgets, the pandemic has devastated community health and local economies. Then there’s the massive, long-term challenge that exacerbates everything: the unprecedented storms, floods, fires, droughts, and heat waves of a changing climate.
