ALGORITMI TENDENZIOSI: ETICA DELL’ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE E DIRITTI DIGITALI IN EUROPA, PERCHÈ FONDAZIONI ED ENTI FILANTROPICI DOVREBBERO OCCUPARSENE?

Primo appuntamento della serie What if?

A NEW OPPORTUNITY TO MAINSTREAM DISABILITY IN THE FOUNDATION SECTOR

At the beginning of March, the European Commission (EC) adopted the new Strategy for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities 2021-2030[1], which provides the roadmap for both the EU and Member States to progress on all areas of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities[2].

The European Foundation Centre (EFC) has been working for more than 20 years on mainstreaming disability in different EU policy areas. In line with this work, we believe the publication of the Strategy offers a good opportunity to reflect on the role of the philanthropic sector in such a relevant topic as the one of addressing the diverse challenges that persons with disabilities face.

The Strategy establishes key initiatives around three main themes: rights at the European level; independent living and autonomy; and non-discrimination and equal opportunities. To implement it, the EC will create a Disability Platform, bringing together a variety of stakeholders.

RACIAL JUSTICE AND CLIMATE ACTION

The Black Lives Matter movement, the killing of George Floyd, extreme storms, apocalyptic wildfires, soaring temperatures, and an increase in droughts and floods – all  in 2020 – and all against the backdrop of the Covid-19 pandemic, have placed both climate change and systemic and institutional racism firmly in the spotlight. Over the past year, Covid-19 disparities and the global uprising against police violence have exposed racial inequalities in all areas of life for black, indigenous, and people of colour (BIPOC). As the world grapples with climate change, tackling racism at all levels is imperative to achieving climate justice.

PRACTICAL TIPS FOR FUNDER COLLABORATION IN NEW TOOLKIT

It doesn’t take long online to find content about collaboration – what makes a good collaboration, stories from the frontlines of collaboration, and so forth. It’s much harder to find content that practically guides you through a collaboration journey that shifts behaviours and practices as it’s being used.

Creating the Funder Collaboration Toolkit was a way of going beyond the case study or the recommendations report, and much more towards granular practices of ‘the how’.
