FILANTROPIA PER LA SALUTE GLOBALE: SI STA FACENDO TROPPO O TROPPO POCO?
10 dicembre, ore 16. Con 46 miliardi di sterline l’anno, la filantropia dedica più risorse per cause legate alla sanità e alla salute che per ogni altra. Con l’intensificarsi della pandemia di Covid-19, fondazioni e enti filantropici hanno fornito finanziamenti fondamentali per lo sviluppo di vaccini, fornitura di attrezzature mediche, aiuti reciproci, assistenza sociale e infrastrutture sanitarie globali. Ma il modo in cui le più grandi organizzazioni interagiscono con i governi, gli organismi internazionali e le aziende farmaceutiche è oggetto di un intenso dibattito.

Imprese e investitori sociali stanno sempre di più cercando modi per adottare una strategia d’impatto e un approccio più olistico. Questo lavoro, realizzato da EVPA (European Venture Philanthropy Association), mostra come queste organizzazioni possono perseguire questo obiettivo lavorando per ampliare il proprio ambito d’azione, scalare l’impatto della realtà che si supporta o intensificare l’impatto in una comunità specifica.
IMMAGINARE UNA FILANTROPIA PER L’EUROPA
Le risorse stanziate annualmente dalla filantropia europea ammontano circa a 60 miliardi. Di queste, tuttavia, poco viene dedicato all’Europa stessa e al suo processo d’integrazione, territorio ancora inesplorato. La vera filantropia europea non esiste quasi più, è una nicchia e qualcosa deve essere fatto.
Partendo da queste premesse, European Cultural Foundation e Allianz Kulturstiftung for Europe hanno realizzato uno studio esplorativo, che mette al centro questi temi, con l’obiettivo di avviare un confronto per immaginare insieme una filantropia focalizzata sull’Europa e un futuro comune.
WELLCOME TRUST LAUNCH NEW STRATEGY TO ADDRESS WORLD’S BIGGEST HEALTH THREATS
The Wellcome Trust, the world’s fourth-largest foundation and one of the largest funders of global health, has announced its new strategy, which will focus on infectious diseases, mental health, and global heating.
Ed Whiting, the Wellcome Trust Director of Strategy, spoke to Alliance in a wide-ranging interview, published today.
Speaking to Alliance in an interview published today ahead of Alliance magazine’s latest issue on global health philanthropy, Ed Whiting, Wellcome’s Director of Strategy, shared that Wellcome underwent a year and a half long process of analysing the foundation’s place in the world and the most present health threats, saying: ‘when we looked at the burden of disease and all sorts of other indicators, it felt to us – and it’s a judgement call – that what really jumped out were escalating risks of infectious disease, mental health problems, and the way global heating is changing health.’
NATIONAL LOTTERY COMMUNITY FUND AWARDS 19.5 MILLION TO CLIMATE WORK
The National Lottery Community Fund has awarded £19.5 million in grants to help tackle the climate emergency across the UK. The funding, granted over the last four months, has gone to a range of partnership projects, as well as development schemes, all supporting communities to take local climate action.
It is a part of the National Lottery-funded Climate Action Fund, a ten-year £100 million fund that is aiming to reduce the carbon footprint of communities, as well as support community-led movements that can demonstrate what is possible when people take the lead in tackling climate change.
