#PhilanthropyDoesNotStop – LE NOTIZIA DALL’EUROPA

CENTRE STAGE FOR CLIMATE ACTION IN EVRY FOUNDATION!

Dr Lars Grotewold, Stiftung Mercator, highlights why climate is a cross-cutting challenge which requires urgent action from the entire philanthropic community.

Climate change has long been treated as an environmental problem, and philanthropic giving for climate still is way too small. Dr Lars Grotewold argue that this is dangerously short-sighted as abating climate change is nothing less than the basic prerequisite for solving multiple crises we are facing today. Every foundation, thus, should engage in climate action.

CAMBRIDGE CENTRE FOR STRATEGIC PHILANTHROPY (CSP) AND EVPA LAUNCH COLLABORATIVE STUDY ON RESEARCH INTERESTS IN EMERGING MARKET PHILANTHROPY

EVPA has partnered with CSP in creating a research agenda that is aligned with the philanthropic needs and interests of those working in the Middle East, Africa, and Southeast Asia.

This June, the Centre for Strategic Philanthropy at Cambridge Judge Business School will be collaborating with EVPA on a landmark investigation of research interests within emerging market philanthropy. CSP aims to organise focus groups to collect important market insights, building their research agenda based on the needs of philanthropic practitioners.

Why a focus group?

Since its inception in March 2020, the CSP has discovered a disconnect between the supply of academic research on philanthropy and the demand of practitioner needs. In essence, the research produced by academic institutions often does not serve the actual needs of those working within the sector, their intended end-users.

With this challenge in mind, CSP’s main aim is to create a research agenda that is both informed and led by industry perspectives. CSP intends to produce research that is both academically sound and also beneficial to practitioners in the philanthropic sector, by listening to the sectoral needs and calibrating research priorities accordingly.

EMPOWERING WOMEN COMMUNITIES DURING TIMES OF DISEMPOWERING COVID-19

The COVID-19 experience has removed any doubts about how inextricably countries, communities and societies are linked. It has also clearly highlighted that while responding to crises and providing relief during such global pandemics is critical, what is even more important is building resilient societies and communities that can weather such storms in future.

We, in PRADAN, have been working with communities in remote, rural parts of Central and Eastern India to help build sustainable livelihoods among the poor and marginalised and ensure that they can emerge from intergenerational poverty. While there has been significant disruption in their livelihoods, what has been extremely encouraging is communities’ willingness and ability to ride the storm. It will be pertinent to mention here that agriculture has been the only sector that has witnessed positive growth in the last financial year.
