Declaration of Commitment of Foundations and Philanthropic Organisations for the Climate Crisis

Assifero, accepting the international call of Philea and WINGS, is promoting the Climate Change Commitment Statement from 2021, inviting all foundations and philanthropic entities, regardless of their mission and size to work towards integrating the climate lens within their organisation.

The Declaration of Commitment: six principles

The signatory foundations, philanthropic organisations and social impact investors, while fully respecting their own nature, autonomy and mission, commit to work on six principles:

for staff, board members and stakeholders on the causes and possible solutions to the challenge of climate change in its broadest sense;

in the search for causes and solutions to the challenge of climate change and its effects;

of the organisation's strategy, governance, programmes and projects in the field;

that encourages the ecological transition to a zero-emission economy;

through carbon footprint reduction, consumption reduction, a waste recycling policy and other targeted actions;

concerning the principles subscribed to in the Declaration of Commitment.

“Climate change, far from being understood solely as an environmental issue, is also a social justice issue, a public health issue, an educational, economic, scientific and cultural issue, a security issue, and a threat to local communities.

Each of us and each organisation has the opportunity to make a difference, whether through adaptation or mitigation actions. The issue is therefore relevant for all foundations and philanthropic organisations, not only for those that recognise in their vision and mission an environmental vocation (environmental funders).”

All foundations, philanthropic organisations and social impact investors, regardless of their mission, field of intervention, size, geographical location, and Assifero membership, can sign this declaration to testify their willingness and commitment to contribute, through their organisation, to addressing the climate crisis, by adhering to the six principles it comprises.
